Celebrate the rich culture and history of Detroit’s North End neighborhood August 21st24th during the second annual The North End Urban Expressions Art Festival: The Healing. The North End Urban Expressions Art Festival is a showcase of the North End’s creativity, culture, evolution and a platform to engage and encourage neighborhood youth in positive self-expression. Last year, The Healing celebrated the history of the North End and the beauty that exists on Oakland Avenue. 10 young people performed original works in front of a backdrop of art commissioned by four young community artists and four adult visual artists. The event served as a platform for Detroit’s creative community to engage and encourage neighborhood youth in positive self-expression as 24 adults and 15 young people in total showcased their talents during the festival.

North End Soup

This year we have added a poetry slam and a film screening art festival as well as embraced the North End Soup as a part of a grand healing weekend. The highlight day,Saturday, August 23rd from 11am-8pm at the Oakland Avenue Community Garden & Greenhouse located on 9354 Oakland Ave., Detroit, MI 48211 will feature visual art and performing artists in varying genres such as spoken word, storytelling, hip-hop, jazz and turntabalism. Health and wellness vendors and wonderful healing workshops and demonstrations will take place; in addition to a great choice of food vendors represented from the Oakland Avenue Farmers’ market and Michigan based food trucks.


If you believe visual and performing art can heal, save, and celebrate the North End, showcase your work or facilitate a workshop.

Visual Arts:
Join the Healing Walls visual arts project (murals) that will be posted along Oakland Avenue. Please fill out The Healing Visual Artists Form by August 5th.
Performing Arts: 

Spoken word, Hip-Hop, Jazz, storytelling, healing/movement, dancers, DJs and other performing artists are welcome to fill out this form: The Healing Performing Artists Form by August 8th.
